Stationery

Letterhead, envelopes, and business cards often create one of the first impressions of MSU. Consistency in design, color, and type is important to reinforce the university’s identity. To order printed stationery and more, go to MSU’s print procurement site at purchasing.msu.edu/printprocurement.

The Michigan State University campus addressing system is being updated in order to improve general public safety response, meet requirements for 9-1-1 dispatching services, and enhance use of GPS capabilities. (For details, see the MSU Campus Addressing Project.)

This addressing system update, which involves changing addresses from building names and room numbers to locatable street addresses, affects stationery standards.

Because the locatable street addresses will be phased in, two stationery formats will be available until the process is completed in April 2012: the current format for use by units until their building is assigned a street address and a new format for use by units after their building has been assigned a street address. NOTE: Existing supplies of printed letterhead, envelopes, and business cards should be used before reprinting using the new format.

All university stationery (except for Intercollegiate Athletics) must display the Michigan State University wordmark and university seal. No additional visual marks are permitted. All specifications for stationery layout and printing can be found in section 10 of MSU Brand Standards.

Letterhead

MSU letterhead includes the Michigan State University wordmark at the top and the university seal in the scholar’s margin. All college and department information appears within the scholar’s margin. MSU’s affirmative-action statement appears at the bottom of the scholar’s margin.

Business cards

Business cards should use a horizontal format whenever possible with the Michigan State University wordmark at the top and the university seal on the left. Name, title, unit, and contact information appear in a single-column format. While the horizontal format is preferred, a vertical format using only the Michigan State University wordmark is provided as an alternative for instances in which multiple titles or unit affiliations preclude use of a horizontal format. A third alternative provides for printing a double-sided card in situations where two separate addresses must be listed.
